There is something undeniably magical about a July wedding on the prairie. The light lingers longer, the air feels alive with celebration, and every moment seems to glow a little more golden.
Our wedding day unfolded exactly as we had envisioned. We leaned into timeless, vintage-inspired details layered with thoughtful design and meaningful personal touches. Every element reflected who we are and the atmosphere we hoped to create.
Choosing the right photographer was incredibly important to us. We wanted someone who could capture the softness, romance, and nostalgia woven throughout the day. Sara Musselman Photography was the perfect choice. Her work carries an editorial elegance while remaining deeply emotive. She documented each moment with intention, preserving both the aesthetic details and the genuine emotion of the day.

The florals were one of the most defining features of our wedding design.
We partnered with Calyx Floral Design, and the result was nothing short of extraordinary. The arrangements were abundant, textural, and artfully composed. A true focal point in every space. Soft, romantic blooms paired with layered greenery created movement and depth throughout the ceremony and reception.
Guests commented immediately on the impact of the florals. They framed our ceremony beautifully, elevated the reception tables, and tied together the vintage vision we had so carefully curated. The flowers did not simply complement the space, they transformed it.

I chose to do my own makeup, a meaningful detail as a makeup artist, and my sister-in-law (a talented hairdresser and one of my bridesmaids) styled my hair. Sharing those quiet preparation moments with her made the morning feel even more special.
The bridal suite was filled with anticipation, laughter, and a sense of calm before the day unfolded.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came before the ceremony.
My cousin, who was also one of my bridesmaids, orchestrated a surprise for Taite. Her boyfriend dressed in a wedding gown and staged a “first look” before the real one. His reaction was priceless and immediately set a lighthearted tone for the rest of the day.
Weddings are deeply emotional occasions, but they should also be filled with joy. That moment reminded us to laugh, breathe, and fully enjoy what was ahead.

After our real first look, we made our way to Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park for portraits. The landscape there is breathtaking! Dramatic coulees, sweeping prairie views, and an almost cinematic backdrop.
The temperature was intense, and I certainly felt for Taite in his full suit. Yet the stillness of that time together, away from the guests and celebration, became one of my favourite parts of the day. The scenery and golden light made every moment worthwhile.

Returning to Sweet Haven Barn to prepare for the ceremony felt surreal. Seeing the space fully styled and ready to welcome our guests is a moment I will never forget.
Our ceremony was deeply personal. We wrote our own vows, and there was not a dry eye in sight. Taite’s aunt served as our officiant, which added a layer of intimacy and significance that meant so much to us. Having someone who knows your story guide you into marriage is something truly special.

Following family portraits, guests enjoyed cocktail hour before we transitioned into the reception inside the barn.
The evening flowed beautifully. Heartfelt speeches were shared, stories were told, and laughter filled the space. Once the dance floor opened, it remained full. Seeing all of our favourite people celebrating together under one roof was overwhelming in the best possible way.

Before we stepped into our first dance, and just after dinner had concluded, we shared a private cake cutting.
It was a quiet pause in the middle of an otherwise full and joyful evening. Stepping away together allowed us to take a breath, reflect on the significance of the day, and simply enjoy a moment that belonged only to us. There is something incredibly meaningful about carving out intentional space within a wedding celebration, even just a few minutes, to reconnect and take it all in.
The simplicity of that moment made it one of my favourites. No audience, no pressure. Just the two of us, beginning this new chapter together.

As dinner concluded and first dances began, we slipped away for sunset portraits. July sunsets on the prairie offer a softness that is difficult to describe; warm, diffused, and incredibly romantic.
Before our first dance, I changed my dress and refreshed my hairstyle, transitioning into a look that felt more relaxed and celebratory for the evening ahead. It was the perfect shift into the party portion of the night.

For midnight lunch, we chose something simple and nostalgic; homemade nachos with warm cheese and chicken wings.
It was an instant favourite and brought everyone back to the dance floor for the final stretch of the evening.
When I look back, I remember more than the design details, although those were beautiful.
A July wedding day we will treasure forever.
